Vinitialy 2018 | Tasting Notes

Well that’s over for another year. I thought this year’s event was a great success, based on conversations with suppliers as well as buyers. Monday was a little mad, or was it just the pavilions I chose to enter?

Pleased to catch up with Luca Corrado of Vietti

The stand out wines of the 200 plus I tasted are:

Best Chianti:

Barone Ricasoli Chianti Classico Gran Riserva Colledilà 2015

2019-2029 | 97 Points

Best Barolo:

Vietti Rocche di Castiglione 2014

2020-2040 | 98 Points

Best Barbaresco:

La Ca’Nova Montefico Vigna Bric Mentina 2015

2020-2025 | 96 Points

Best Amarone:

Tommasi della Valpolicella Riserva Ca ‘Florian 2010

2020-2035 | 94+ Points

Best Barbera:

Elvio Cogno Barbera d’Alba DOC Pre-Phyloxera 2010

2018-2030 | 95 Points

Two whites of outstanding quality and value:

Ca Rugate Studio Vineto Bianco 2015

Vietti Roero Arneis 2016

The wine of the show:

Vietti Rocche di Castiglione 2014

The bouquet showing dried rose petal and blue iris, red cherry, mint, structured and yet gentle.”Iron fist velvet glove” inner grace showing early complexity. In a word, extraordinary.

2020-2040 | 98 Points
